Warehouse Operations: From Receiving to Shipped, Accurately

Receiving and putaway: getting accuracy from the start
Inventory accuracy is won or lost at the dock. Receiving against the originating purchase order -- scanning to confirm quantities, catching shortages and damage, capturing lot and expiry data -- means the ledger reflects reality the moment stock arrives. Skip it and every downstream count inherits the error.
Putaway then decides where stock lives. Directed putaway routes each item to an optimal slot based on velocity and size, instead of letting staff stash it wherever there's room -- which is how items get 'lost' in a building they never left.
Picking strategies that cut the biggest cost: walking
Walking is the single largest cost in most pick operations. Batch picking groups many orders so a picker collects all units of a SKU in one pass; wave picking releases work in timed groups aligned to carrier cutoffs and zones. Both attack walking directly.

Keeping counts accurate without shutting down
The annual wall-to-wall count is disruptive and stale the moment it ends. Cycle counting replaces it with small, frequent counts on a rolling schedule -- weighted so fast movers and high-value items get counted more often. Accuracy stays high and you rarely stop to count.
Discrepancies are only useful if you can explain them. An immutable inventory ledger records every movement, so a wrong count becomes a question you can answer -- every touch on that bin and SKU, and who made it -- rather than a mystery you write off.
Verifying every order, and seeing the floor as a map
Scan-to-ship verification makes the packer scan each unit against the order before the box closes -- the most effective control against the expensive mis-ship. It also creates a record of exactly what went out, which shortens every 'I got the wrong thing' dispute.
Tying it together is spatial awareness. Most systems manage a list of bin codes; a live 2D floor map shows you the building -- where stock lives, where pickers are, which zones are congested. That's the difference between reading coordinates and seeing your operation.
