SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)
A unique identifier you assign to each distinct, sellable product variant so it can be tracked, counted, and reordered.
A SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is the internal code that uniquely identifies one specific variant of a product -- a particular size, color, or pack. Unlike a UPC or barcode, which is shared across the market, a SKU is yours: you design the scheme, and it's how your systems and your team refer to that exact item.
Clean SKUs are the foundation of every other inventory process. In Skuwell, each SKU lives once in the central catalog and flows out to every sales channel, so a count on the warehouse floor, an order on Shopify, and a purchase order to a supplier all point at the same record -- no duplicate or conflicting product data.
