Shipping & fulfillment

Backorder

An order for an item that's currently out of stock, accepted now and fulfilled when stock arrives.

A backorder is a sale you take before you can ship it, against incoming stock. Done deliberately it captures demand you'd otherwise lose; done by accident (because counts were wrong) it's just a delayed oversell with an unhappy customer.

Skuwell tracks incoming stock from open POs alongside on-hand inventory, so you can offer backorders intentionally with realistic dates rather than discovering you've promised stock that isn't coming.
